Founded in 1972, Rutherford Hill Winery is a pioneer in the development of California Merlot.
Nestled high on a hill, Rutherford Hill Winery commands a spectactular view overlooking the Rutherford bench of Napa Valley. It is from a handful of the most select Napa vineyards that Rutherford Hill continues its tradition of crafting legendary wines. In 1972, while the rest of the world was just beginning to take notice of Napa Valley, the founders of Rutherford Hill recognized a unique opportunity; they believed that the climate and soil of the valley, similar to Pomerol, were well suited to Merlot and were among the first to pioneer what has become Napa’s premier varietal.
In 1996, the Terlato family purchased the winery and embraced their legendary commitment to quality over quantity. Their pursuit of excellence began with a comprehensive review of all aspects of the facility that resulted in significant enhancements to our portfolio of wines of great complexity and character.
TWG Chairman Anthony Terlato, along with his sons Bill and John, works with Rutherford Hill winemaker, Marisa Taylor, to tackle the challenges of consistently improving the wine, vintage after vintage. The philosophy that the Terlato’s apply to all their ventures was evident at Rutherford Hill from the beginning.
The grape growers who founded Rutherford Hill carefully studied the geography of the region and capitalized on climate and soil conditions that resembled those of Pomerol, the small but distinctive Merlot-growing region of Bordeaux. What a promising discovery that was – one that was borne plenty of fruit – specifically, the lush, purple-black grapes that have contributed so much to Rutherford Hill’s success. Today, Merlot remains the flagship wine of the company with 75 percent of Rutherford Hill’s production dedicated to this varietal, one of the leading Merlots of Napa Valley.

From NapaValleyRegister, Latitude 38 Entertainment announced its 2016 BottleRock Napa Valley lineup and it is star-studded at the top and broad and deep, with 80-plus bands and the “something for everyone” variety that has been the hallmark of the event since its inception.
The headliners, who will close the festivities on the main stage each of the three evenings, May 27-29, and not necessarily in this order, are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stevie Wonder and Florence + the Machine.
Red Hot Chili Peppers have been among the top-ranked rock bands nationally and internationally for the past three decades, with 80 million albums sold, seven Grammys and induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. YELP Reviews for BottleRock NapaValley, CharlenieThe W. – 4 STARS I had heard horror stories about the organization from previous years for this festival, but I had a pretty good time. They had a great lineup, and I’m glad I went for all three days.
Pros (things I liked) -AWESOME LINEUP! -lots of (delicious!!!) food choices -water stations to keep you hydrated -silent disco was a really interesting and fun experience. -multiple stages and chill areas in the back to listen to music -lockers -clean bathrooms!!! -free beachballs that made for really fun crowd interaction -Incredibly helpful and friendly staff
Cons (things that pissed me off) -no crowdsurfing or moshing. I know, I know, it’s not safe, but seriously I felt like this contributed to how bitchy the people were. I mean, Cage the Elephant was READ MORE..
Shijie F. – 5 STARS We came for Day 2 (Saturday) of Bottle Rock. General admission. After reading about the parking frenzy, we decided to stay at a local hotel to avoid driving back to south bay on the same day.
The festival exceeded my expectations! We were mentally preparing ourselves for a complete chaos at a 3-year old music festival, and were instead delighted to see Napa-style, polished and classy festivities. So coming with low expectations helped build up the excitement!
Highlights include:
++TONS of food/wine/snack choices: food price is between $8-18, beer around $10, and wine $10-20, with occasional high-end outliers such as Morimoto. Lots of delicious food choices! Whole Foods sold young READ MORE..
OUR CONCLUSION Given the line up this year, its more tempting then ever. We would most certainly go. Be sure to grab your tickets to BottleRock Napa Valley soon because many passes are already sold out.

This is a short film we did for at a Luxury Eco-friendly Resort, Hotel, and Spa last June in wine country Napa Valley, California. Spa Solage was voted the #2 Spa in the US by Travel & Leisure Magazine. We shot both photography stills and video motion side by side on this shoot. This was shot with the Canon 5D Mark II.
We had a great time on this shoot with our fantastic crew and models. We stayed at the resort for a full week spending two days shooting the spa lifestyle content and the remainder shooting architectural, food, and detail photos. This luxury resort is right up our alley, modern design, eco-friendly, luxurious, California cuisine, amazing spa and mineral pool, we were in heaven.
In honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Judgment of Paris this May, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars will release the 2013 vintage of its iconic S.L.V. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon with a commemorative label replicating the original 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon which took top honors among the red wines at the 1976 Paris Tasting.
Triumphing over two first-growth and other renowned wines of Bordeaux, the 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon brought international recognition to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Napa Valley and the American wine industry as a whole. To mark the historic event, the commemorative 2013 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon carries a small gold band saying “40th Anniversary Vintage,” and releases at the winery May 1, 2016.
“The surprise win in 1976 by Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars – and Chateau Montelena Winery with their Chardonnay – truly changed the course of history,” said Ted Baseler, President and CEO of Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. “What the Judgment of Paris did was give credibility. It was a trigger event that gave validity to the quality of American wines. It set a high benchmark and legacy for the winery, and one that we work every day to respect and take to new heights.”
